Optical storageOptical storage refers to a class of data storage systems that use light to read or write data to an underlying optical media. Reading and writing methods have also varied over time, but most modern systems use lasers as the light source and use it both for reading and writing to the discs. Polarization (physics)Polarization (also polarisation) is a property of transverse waves which specifies the geometrical orientation of the oscillations. In a transverse wave, the direction of the oscillation is perpendicular to the direction of motion of the wave. The devices are often called optical disk libraries, "optical storage archives", robotic drives, or autochangers.
