Abstract

A classical result of Hasse states that the norm principle holds for finite cyclic extensions of global fields, in other words local norms are global norms. We investigate the norm principle for finite dimensional commutative kale algebras over global fields; since such an algebra is a product of separable extensions, this is often called the multinorm principle. Under the assumption that the kale algebra contains a cyclic factor, we give a necessary and sufficient condition for the Hasse principle to hold, in terms of an explicitly constructed element of a finite abelian group. This can be seen as an explicit description of the Brauer-Manin obstruction to the Hasse principle. (C) 2019 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

The group D(P) of all endo-permutation modules for a finite p-group P is a finitely generated abelian group. We prove that its torsion-free rank is equal to the number of conjugacy classes of non-cyclic subgroups of P. We also obtain partial results on its torsion subgroup. Equivalences between blocks of p-local Mackey algebras

Let G be a finite group and (K, O, k) be a p-modular system. Let R = O or k. There is a bijection between the blocks of the group algebra and the blocks of the so-called p-local Mackey algebra mu(1)(R)(G). Let b be a block of RG with abelian defect group D. Let b' be its Brauer correspondant in N-G(D). It is conjectured by Broue that the blocks RGb and RNG(D)b' are derived equivalent. Here we look at equivalences between the corresponding blocks of p-local Mackey algebras. We prove that an analogue of the Broue's conjecture is true for the p-local Mackey algebras in the following cases: for the principal blocks of p-nilpotent groups and for blocks with defect 1.

Let K be a global field of characteristic not 2. The embedding problem for maximal tori in a classical group G can be described in terms of algebras with involution. The aim of this paper is to give an explicit description of the obstruction group to the Hasse principle in terms of ramification properties of certain commutative étale algebras, and to show that this group is isomorphic to one previously defined by the second author. This builds on our previous work as well as on results of Borovoi. In particular, we show that this explicit obstruction group can be identified with the group of Borovoi (J. Reine Angew. Math. 473 (1996), 181–194), where X is the homogeneous space associated to the embedding functor defined by the second author (Comment. Math. Helv. 89 (2014), 671–717).
