G. E. M. de Ste. CroixGeoffrey Ernest Maurice de Ste. Croix, (dəseɪntˈkrɔɪ; 8 February 1910 – 5 February 2000), known informally as Croicks, was a British historian who specialised in examining Ancient Greece from a Marxist perspective. He was Fellow and Tutor in Ancient History at New College, Oxford, from 1953 to 1977, where he taught scholars including Robin Lane Fox, Robert Parker and Nicholas Richardson. Ste. Croix (Sainte Croix) was born on 8 February 1910 in Macau, and baptised in St John's Cathedral, Hong Kong.
Albert GleizesAlbert Gleizes (glɛz; 8 December 1881 – 23 June 1953) was a French artist, theoretician, philosopher, a self-proclaimed founder of Cubism and an influence on the School of Paris. Albert Gleizes and Jean Metzinger wrote the first major treatise on Cubism, Du "Cubisme", 1912. Gleizes was a founding member of the Section d'Or group of artists. He was also a member of Der Sturm, and his many theoretical writings were originally most appreciated in Germany, where especially at the Bauhaus his ideas were given thoughtful consideration.
Emmanuel de MartonneEmmanuel de Martonne (ɛmanɥɛl də maʁtɔn, 1 April 1873 – 24 July 1955) was a French geographer. He participated in the Paris Peace Conference. Martonne was born on 1 April 1873 in Chabris, Indre, France, and was the son-in-law of Paul Vidal de la Blache. In 1892, he entered the École Normale Supérieure. He graduated three years later with a degree in history and geography. After that, he worked with Ferdinand von Richthofen and Albrecht Penck. In 1899, de Martonne became a professor at the University of Rennes.

Pyotr Parfyonov wrote the latest version of the song after the 1922 Battle of Volochayevka. The song has many versions in other languages, including Serbo-Croatian, Greek, German, French, Hungarian, Hebrew and Kurdish among others. The song was adapted by the Yugoslav Partisans and used in World War II.
