IONIS Education GroupIONIS Education Group is a private, for-profit, higher education group in France. It was created in 1980 and by 2023 had more than 35,000 students and 100,000 alumni. There are 29 further education colleges in the group. Marc Sellam created the Institut supérieur européen de gestion group in Paris in 1980 as a business school with an organization and curriculum that differed from other grandes écoles. During the 1980s regional colleges were created in Bordeaux, Toulouse, Lille, Strasbourg, Nantes and Lyon.
Tomb of the Unknown Soldier (France)The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier (Tombe du Soldat inconnu) holds an unidentified member of the French armed forces killed during the First World War, to symbolically commemorate all soldiers who have died for France throughout history. It was installed in Paris under the Arc de Triomphe on 11 November 1920, simultaneously with the interment of a British unknown soldier in Westminster Abbey, making both graves the first examples of a tomb of the Unknown Soldier, and the first to honour the unknown dead of the First World War.
Le CreusetLe Creuset (lə kʁøzɛ, meaning "the crucible") is a French-Belgian maker of cookware. They are best known for producing enameled cast-iron cookware. The company first manufactured their products in the town of Fresnoy-le-Grand in France in 1925, which are similar in function to a Dutch oven but with T-shaped handles designed by the Italian industrial innovator Enzo Mari. The Le Creuset Dutch oven is on display in the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of American History in Washington, D.C.
Henri MaîtreHenri Maître is an Emeritus Professor at the Télécom Paris Institut Mines-Télécom, specializing in the area of and pattern recognition applications. Prof. Maître's research advanced in the fields ranging from digital camera to computational photography. He has done extensive research in remote sensing applications. His work included studies related to troposphere effects and its multi-temporal correction in differential SAR interferometry, watermarking, feature detection of SAR images and Hough Transform applications.
RER BRER B is one of the five lines in the Réseau Express Régional (English: Regional Express Network), a hybrid commuter rail and rapid transit system serving Paris, France and its Île-de-France suburbs. The RER B line crosses the region from north to south, with all trains serving a group of stations in central Paris, before branching out towards the ends of the line.
Léonor MériméeJean-François Léonor Mérimée (16 September 1757, Broglie - 26 September 1836, Paris) was a French writer, painter and chemist, specializing in pigment color in painting and decorative art. He was the father of the famous author, Prosper Mérimée. His father was François Merimée (c. 1715-1795), a lawyer at the Parlement de Rouen and author of "Treatise on fiefs and feudal rights in Normandy according to the natural order of matters and procedure divided into 5 parts (1760). He also served as a steward for the Maréchal de Broglie.
Alain LipietzAlain Lipietz (born September 19, 1947 as Alain Guy Lipiec) is a French engineer, economist and politician, a former Member of the European Parliament, and a member of the French Green Party. He has, however, been suspended from the party since 25 March 2014 and is an elected local politician in Val de Bièvre, Paris, France. Alain Lipietz was raised in Paris in a middle class, Leftist family. His mother was French and his father was a Jewish Pole, who had fled antisemitism in Poland at the age of two and arrived in France in 1924.
David Bierens de HaanDavid Bierens de Haan (3 May 1822, in Amsterdam – 12 August 1895, in Leiden) was a Dutch mathematician and historian of science. Bierens de Haan was a son of the rich merchant Abraham Pieterszoon de Haan (1795–1880) and Catharina Jacoba Bierens (1797–1835). In 1843 he completed a study in the exact sciences and received his PhD from the University of Leiden in 1847 under Gideon Janus Verdam (1802–1866) for the work De Lemniscata Bernouillana. After this he became a teacher of physics and mathematics at a gymnasium in Deventer.
Marc-Antoine ParsevalMarc-Antoine Parseval des Chênes (27 April 1755 – 16 August 1836) was a French mathematician, most famous for what is now known as Parseval's theorem, which presaged the unitarity of the Fourier transform. He was born in Rosières-aux-Salines, France, into an aristocratic French family, and married Ursule Guerillot in 1795, but divorced her soon after. A monarchist opposed to the French revolution, imprisoned in 1792, Parseval later fled the country for publishing poetry critical of the government of Napoleon.
Marcel BollMarcel Boll (15 September 1886, Paris – 12 August 1971, Paris) - French scientist, sociologist, philosopher, educator, scientific journalist (journalist specializing in scientific topics), and a founding member (1930) of the Rationalist Union (French: Union rationaliste). Boll was one of the most prolific contributors of articles to Les Cahiers Rationalistes (The Rationalist Notebooks) and Raison Présente (Reason Present), two journals published by the Rationalist Union.
