Laboratory of Experimental Rock Mechanics
LaboratoryThe Experimental Laboratory of Rock Mechanics (LEMR) at EPFL, led by Prof. Marie Violay, focuses on researching the mechanical behavior, physical properties, and fluid transport of rock materials under sub-surface conditions. The lab conducts experimental studies combined with microstructural analysis and modeling to understand processes at the micro-scale. LEMR offers research, teaching, and services related to rock mechanics, rock physics, and engineering geomechanics. Projects at LEMR cover a wide range of applications, including enhanced geothermal reservoirs, CO2 geological sequestration, and supply of energy. The lab is equipped with state-of-the-art instruments for conducting various tests on rock samples.
