The Environmental Hydraulic Laboratory (LHE) at EPFL is a research group focused on environmental fluid mechanics and geophysical fluid dynamics, with a particular emphasis on hydraulic processes in mountainous regions like the Alps. Their research activities include studying dynamics of free-surface flows on steep slopes, physics of bed load transport, hydrodynamics of waterways, and scientific modeling for risk management in mountain areas. Recent experiments have shown significant variations in sediment transport rates even with constant water discharge, shedding light on the complexities of sediment pulses in mountain rivers.
