The Protein Design and Immuno-Engineering Laboratory (LPDI) at EPFL focuses on computationally designing novel functional proteins for various applications such as therapeutics, vaccines, and biosensors. By developing and applying computational methodologies, the lab aims to engineer proteins with therapeutic potential. One of their key areas of research is the rational design of components for synthetic biology, including chemically-controlled protein switches for precise control over cell signaling. Additionally, the lab works on rational vaccine design, aiming to induce neutralizing antibodies against specific epitopes to develop precision vaccines. They have also made significant contributions to the field of protein design by creating novel small-molecule responsive switches and light-controlled protein switches.
