The Photonics and Interfaces Laboratory (LPI) at EPFL focuses on researching photosystems that generate electric power or fuels from sunlight, including dye-sensitized solar cells, hybrid perovskites, and solar fuels. They pioneer the use of mesoscopic structures for solar energy production and investigate the storage of electricity in batteries. LPI's work in artificial photosynthesis aims to convert CO2 and H2O into valuable chemicals using solar energy, with a focus on photoelectrochemical conversion and electrocatalysis. The lab also explores low-dimensional perovskites and new cell embodiments to enhance the efficiency of thin-film solar cells. LPI collaborates with industrial companies to commercialize their technologies.
