Military aviation
Military aviation comprises military aircraft and other flying machines for the purposes of conducting or enabling aerial warfare, including national airlift (air cargo) capacity to provide logistical supply to forces stationed in a war theater or along a front. Airpower includes the national means of conducting such warfare, including the intersection of transport and warcraft. Military aircraft include bombers, fighters, transports, trainer aircraft, and reconnaissance aircraft.
Appui aérien rapproché
La couverture aérienne rapprochée (en anglais Close air support, abrégé en CAS) est une opération aérienne militaire. Il désigne l'utilisation d'avion d'attaque au sol ou d'hélicoptères d'attaque pour appuyer des troupes proches de l'ennemi. Ce type d'opération nécessite à la fois un usage précis de la puissance de feu, un délai de réaction rapide et une bonne synchronisation avec les unités au sol. La première mission de ce type a lieu le , elle est effectuée par deux avions de l'aviation française pendant la Première Guerre mondiale.
Naval gunfire support
Naval gunfire support (NGFS), also known as naval surface fire support (NSFS), or shore bombardment, is the use of naval artillery to provide fire support for amphibious assault and other troops operating within their range. NGFS is one of several disciplines encompassed by the term naval fires. Modern naval gunfire support is one of the three main components of amphibious warfare assault operations support, along with aircraft and ship-launched land-attack missiles.
Aerial warfare
Aerial warfare is the use of military aircraft and other flying machines in warfare. Aerial warfare includes bombers attacking enemy installations or a concentration of enemy troops or strategic targets; fighter aircraft battling for control of airspace; attack aircraft engaging in close air support against ground targets; naval aviation flying against sea and nearby land targets; gliders, helicopters and other aircraft to carry airborne forces such as paratroopers; aerial refueling tankers to extend operation time or range; and military transport aircraft to move cargo and personnel.
