Analogue filter

Analogue filters are a basic building block of signal processing much used in electronics. Amongst their many applications are the separation of an audio signal before application to bass, mid-range, and tweeter loudspeakers; the combining and later separation of multiple telephone conversations onto a single channel; the selection of a chosen radio station in a radio receiver and rejection of others. Passive linear electronic analogue filters are those filters which can be described with linear differential equations (linear); they are composed of capacitors, inductors and, sometimes, resistors (passive) and are designed to operate on continuously varying analogue signals. There are many linear filters which are not analogue in implementation (digital filter), and there are many electronic filters which may not have a passive topology – both of which may have the same transfer function of the filters described in this article. General Sensorless Method with Parameter Identification and Double Kalman Filter Applied to a Bistable Fast Linear Switched Reluctance Actuator for Textile Machine

This paper provides a general sensorless method to control the position of a linear actuator. After a review of the solutions used so far, this new method is applied to identify keys passing through a linear actuator used in an industrial textile machine. The presented method describes how to find out the position of the key using two cascading discrete Kalman filters, the first for filtering the speed and the second for filtering the impedance measurement in other to retrieve the position. To speed-up the method and due to the thickness difference from one textile machine to another, an actuator model, to evaluate impedance in function of the position, is obtained by using parameter identification. Kalman's filter parameters are optimized to minimize the time necessary to learn the speed operation. Finally, we focus on the temporal evolution of Kalman Filters parameters on the learning process.

Consistent and Regularized Magnification of Images

Because more output data must be created than is available from the input, magnification is an ill-posed problem. Traditional magnification relies on resampling an interpolation model at the appropriate rate; unfortunately, this simple solution is blind to the presence of the analog filter that was implicitly present when the samples of the function to be magnified were acquired. Consistent resampling has been introduced to take this into account, but it turns out that this solution is still under-constrained. In this paper, we propose regularization as a way to devise a deterministic magnification method that fully satisfies consistency constraints in the absence of noise, and at the same time that produces an output that best fulfills a wide class of criteria for regularity. Contrarily to many other methods, ours has been designed without ever leaving the continuous domain. We conduct experiments that show the benefit of our approach.

Vibration isolation via linear and nonlinear periodic devices

The current manuscript deals with the design of passive mechanical filters for vibration attenuation a low frequencies. Traditionally, this has been addressed employing dissipation as the attenuation mechanism. While such strategy provides broadfrequency effectiveness, attenuation at any given frequency is modest. Mass and stiffness-modulated periodic systems, on the other hand, exploit dispersion as the attenuation mechanism and represent an alternative to dissipation-based devices. Attenuation due to dispersion may be significantly higher than what is afforded by dissipation-based systems within a design frequency rage. The proposed assemblies, however, are not easily tailored to filter lowe-frequency vibrations. To this end, embedding such periodic systems into an elastic matrix yields a high-pass mechanical filter with tunable stop bands were waves are not allowed to propagate. Significant improvements in performance moreover may be obtained if intrinsically nonlinear devices are adopted. Specifically, a strongly nonlinear medium such as ordered granular media supports a limited number of waveforms, resulting in an efficient mechanical filter. Results reported here, in fact, suggest matrix-embedded sphere chains as highly tunable mechanical filters for vibration attenuation.
