L'antienne mariale Sub tuum præsidium, ou Sous l'abri de ta miséricorde en traduction, est une prière catholique dédiée à la Vierge Marie. Il s'agit de la plus ancienne prière adressée à Notre Dame, parmi les textes non bibliques. Son texte fut retrouvé sur un papyrus égyptien écrit en grec et daté du ou du siècle suivant. Dans l'usage contemporain, le texte est une réflexion entre « Dieu de tendresse et de miséricorde » et « Soyez les uns envers les autres miséricordieux ».
Buisson ardent (Bible)Le Buisson ardent est, dans la tradition biblique, la révélation du Dieu Eternel à Moïse dans le pays de Madian. Lors de ce passage, YHWH l’appelle de l’intérieur d'un buisson qui brûle sans jamais se consumer. Dieu se donne également un nom ineffable qu'il confie à Moïse. Cette théophanie a lieu sur le mont Horeb et est relatée dans le Livre de l'Exode, chapitre 3. L'arbuste présenté au monastère Sainte-Catherine du Sinaï comme étant le « Buisson ardent » de la Bible est une ronce de l'espèce Rubus sanctus, ou « mûrier sauvage ».
Nestorian schismThe Nestorian schism (431) was a split between the Christian churches of Sassanid Persia, which affiliated with Nestorius, and those that later became the Catholic and Orthodox churches. The schism rose out of a Christological dispute, notably involving Cyril (Patriarch of Alexandria) and Nestorius (Patriarch of Constantinople). The First Council of Ephesus in 431 and the Council of Chalcedon in 451 condemned Nestorius and his doctrine, which emphasized the radical distinctness between Christ's human and divine natures.
Marian devotionsMarian devotions are external pious practices directed to the person of Mary, mother of God, by members of certain Christian traditions. They are performed in Catholicism, High Church Lutheranism, Anglo-Catholicism, Eastern Orthodoxy and Oriental Orthodoxy, but generally rejected in other Christian denominations. Such devotional prayers or may be accompanied by specific requests for Mary's intercession with God. There is significant diversity of form and structure in Marian devotions practiced by different groups of Christians.
