Charged Higgs boson production in association with a top quark in MC@NLO

Résumé

We discuss the calculation of charged Higgs boson production in association with a top quark in the MC@NLO framework for combining NLO matrix elements with a parton shower. The process is defined in a model-independent manner for wide applicability, and can be used if the charged Higgs boson mass is either greater or less than the mass of the top quark. For the latter mass region, care is needed in defining the charged Higgs production mode due to interference with top pair production. We give a suitable definition applicable in an NLO (plus parton shower) context, and we present example results for the LHC.

Standard Model Higgs boson mass from inflation

We analyse one-loop radiative corrections to the inflationary potential in the theory, where inflation is driven by the Standard Model Higgs field. We show that inflation is possible provided the Higgs mass mH lies in the interval mmin < mH < mmax, where mmin = [136.7 + (mt - 171.2) × 1.95] GeV, mmax = [184.5 + (mt - 171.2) × 0.5] GeV and mt is the mass of the top quark. In the renormalization scheme associated with the Einstein frame the predictions of the spectral index of scalar fluctuations and of the tensor-to-scalar ratio practically do not depend on the Higgs mass within the admitted region and are equal to ns = 0.97 and r = 0.0034 correspondingly. © 2009.

Updated predictions for the total production cross sections of top and of heavier quark pairs at the Tevatron and at the LHC

We present updated predictions for the total production cross section of top-quark pairs at the Tevatron and at the LHC, and, at the LHC, of heavy-quark pairs with mass in the range 0.5 - 2 TeV. For t (t) over bar production at the LHC we also present results at root S = 10 TeV, in view of the expected accelerator conditions during the forthcoming 2008 run. Our results are accurate at the level of next-to-leading order in as, and of next-to-leading threshold logarithms (NLO+NLL). We adopt the most recent parametrizations of parton distribution functions, and compute the corresponding uncertainties. We study the dependence of the results on the top mass, and we assess the impact of missing higher-order corrections by independent variations of factorisation and renormalisation scales.

We present the calculation of scalar and pseudoscalar Higgs production in association with a top-antitop pair to the next-to-leading order (NLO) accuracy in QCD, interfaced with parton showers according to the MC@NLO formalism. We apply our results to the cases of light and very light Higgs boson production at the LHC, giving results for total rates as well as for sample differential distributions, relevant to the Higgs, to the top quarks, and to their decay products. This work constitutes the first phenomenological application of aMC@NLO, a fully automated approach to complete event generation at NLO in QCD. (C) 2011 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
