Verb concepts from affordances

In this paper, we investigate how the interactions of a robot with its environment can be used to create concepts that are typically represented by verbs in language. Towards this end, we utilize the notion of affordances to argue that verbs typically refer to the generation of a specific type of effect rather than a specific type of action. Then, we show how a robot can form these concepts through interactions with the environment and how humans can use these concepts to ease their communication with the robots. We demonstrate that iCub, a humanoid robot, can use the concepts, which it has developed, to to understand what a human performs, perform multi-step planning for reaching a goal state as well as to specify a goal to the robot using symbolic descriptions.

Verbe impersonnel

En grammaire, un verbe impersonnel est un verbe qui n’a pas de sujet agent. D’une part, il y a des verbes impersonnels qui ne peuvent avoir aucune espèce de sujet (dans certaines langues) ou qui ne peuvent avoir qu’un sujet appelé « apparent » (dans d’autres langues), et d’autres verbes, qui peuvent avoir un sujet, mais qui n’est pas l’agent du procès. Ce sujet peut être un nom, un pronom, un verbe à un mode impersonnel ou une proposition subordonnée.

Verbe

Le verbe (du latin verbum : mot, verbe) constitue avec le nom la catégorie de mots ou partie du discours principale de toute langue. La tradition grammaticale présente le verbe en opposition au nom à cause de sa capacité d'exprimer un procès, en traduisant une action accomplie ( Il regarde un film) ou subie par le sujet ( Il a été déçu par ce film), ou un état ( Il est satisfait) ou des modifications du sujet ( Il a changé d'avis).

Verbe à particule

Un verbe à particule est un mot composé constitué d'un verbe de base associé à un élément d'origine non verbale (la « particule ») qui en complète ou en modifie le sens. La particule peut tirer son origine d'un adverbe ou d'une adposition, moins souvent d'un nom ou d'un adjectif. Les verbes à particule sont particulièrement typiques de la grammaire des langues germaniques, bien qu'ils ne soient pas limités à cette famille de langues. L'allemand et le néerlandais se caractérisent par des règles complexes qui régissent la position de la particule dans la proposition.
