Work and High Mobility in Europe

The high work-related mobilities concern a significant proportion of the active population and condition novel lifestyles. This chapter describes the practices and discourses of the people concerned by these high mobilities, challenge a number of preconceptions and fantasies, and paint a protean picture that highlights the largely unknown financial, social, human and environmental costs. It also describes the populations involved, in socioeconomic, demographic and geographic terms. The chapter discusses several forms of large-scale mobility and focuses on forms that are related to employment. These are intensive daily commuting, weekly commuting, fluctuating commuting, and finally frequent travel for work. High mobility is perceived very differently by highly mobile people across Europe. The chapter examines the consequences that high mobility practices may have on sociability, health or the balance of life as a couple.

Mobilité sociale

La mobilité sociale concerne les changements de statut social des individus ou des groupes sociaux au cours du temps, ainsi que les différences entre le statut social des parents et celui de leurs enfants. En sociologie, c'est un concept pour l'analyse de la structure sociale. La mobilité sociale est souvent entendue comme synonyme d'ascension sociale ou de la possibilité d'ascension sociale, par opposition à la reproduction sociale, et répondant aux questions d'inégalités, de redistribution des revenus et du patrimoine.

MODFET

Le MODFET (modulated-doping field effect transistor) ou transistor à effet de champ à dopage modulé est un type de transistor à effet de champ (FET). Il est connu aussi sous le nom de HEMT (High Electron Mobility Transistor), ou transistor à électron à haute mobilité. Electron mobility

In solid-state physics, the electron mobility characterises how quickly an electron can move through a metal or semiconductor when pulled by an electric field. There is an analogous quantity for holes, called hole mobility. The term carrier mobility refers in general to both electron and hole mobility. Electron and hole mobility are special cases of electrical mobility of charged particles in a fluid under an applied electric field.
