Venice (ˈvɛnᵻs ; Venezia veˈnɛttsja; Venesia veˈnɛsja, outdatedly Venexia veˈnɛzja) is a city in northeastern Italy and the capital of the Veneto region. It is built on a group of 118 small islands that are separated by expanses of open water and by canals; portions of the city are linked by over 400 bridges. The islands are in the shallow Venetian Lagoon, an enclosed bay lying between the mouths of the Po and the Piave rivers (more exactly between the Brenta and the Sile). In 2020, around 258,685 people resided in greater Venice or the Comune di Venezia, of whom around 51,000 live in the historical island city of Venice (centro storico) and the rest on the mainland (terraferma). Together with the cities of Padua and Treviso, Venice is included in the Padua-Treviso-Venice Metropolitan Area (PATREVE), which is considered a statistical metropolitan area, with a total population of 2.6 million. Venise et son architecture appartiennent à une réalité suspendue entre les époques. Si l’on fait abstraction du nombre alarmant de touristes, lorsqu’on explore les ruelles labyrinthiques, lorsqu’on admire d’un vaporetto les palais qui s’affichent sur le Canal Grande ou lorsqu’on se retrouve au milieu de la piazza San Marco, on se laisse transporter au temps de Canaletto, fascinés par cette image atemporelle que l’on n’ose altérer. C’est justement pour cette raison que l’architecture contemporaine a toujours eu de grandes difficultés à trouver une place dans l’île lagunaire. Malgré cette impression, la Venise d’aujourd’hui est en réalité le fruit de changements continus, d’influences multiples qui révèlent le dynamisme de la ville. Le projet s’insère au centre de Venise – sur le site de la Peggy Guggenheim Collection, où aurait dû être construit un des plus grands palais jamais projetés – comme un geste provocateur qui veut montrer, à travers ses formes et ses matériaux, qu’à Venise, comme l’écrit Manfredo Tafuri « tradition » signifie « continuation de la trahison », continuation de ce que Venise a fait tout au long de son histoire : accueillir de nouveaux langages. A ce point naît une interrogation : existe-t-il une vénitianité ou au contraire une pluralité de réalités, d’images distinctes que chacun perçoit différemment ?

Porto Marghera. A new productive Lanscape

Fusina is a particular area of Porto Marghera, Venice mainland industrial area, different from any other areas inside the industrial compound. It's situated in the southern border, the most close to the Veneto coun- tryside. This area was one of the last to turned from rural to agricultural at the beginning of the 60's, with more reprises in the following years. The rural landscape characterized by woods, countryside and isolated vernacular buildings turned into an industrial landscape characterized by infrastructures, factories, vapor and ash. ; The heavy industrialization deeply compromised the fragile lagoon ecosystem and lead to a diffuse problem of soil and water pollution. The project aim to transform Fusina in a big machine for the de-pollution where can be tested experimental techniques, fast and slow method of cleaning of the soil. The masterplan try to improve the industrial grid of roads and factory, defining distinct parcels and trying to preserve most important recycling and energy factories still active in the area and reconverting some of them into a research centre or laboratories. The program of my project is a thermal desorption for the cleaning of the soil and a thermal plant for the production of energy through biomass.
