This lecture covers the regulation of the cell cycle, focusing on the transition from G1 to S phase. It explains how the expression of G1/S genes is controlled by phosphorylation of E2F by CDK2-CyclinA, leading to E2F degradation and decreased cyclin E expression. The role of key factors such as pRb, E2F, CDKs, cyclins, and tumor suppressors in controlling the G1/S transition is discussed. The lecture also explores the impact of Myc on cell cycle regulators and the signaling pathways involved in cell proliferation. Emphasis is placed on the importance of Myc targets in promoting cell proliferation and survival, as well as the dysregulation of cell cycle control mechanisms in cancer.
