The Laboratory of Applied Photonic Devices (LAPD) at EPFL focuses on shaping light for various research areas, including manufacturing 3D structures in transparent materials via additive manufacturing. They are particularly interested in volumetric manufacturing, endoscopic imaging using multimode fibers, and optical computing neuromorphic machines. LAPD also emphasizes translating their research into practical industrial applications, leading to successful spin-offs. Current projects include high-resolution retinal imaging, volumetric 3D printing, deep learning with multimode lasers, and light-based droplet printing. LAPD has also worked on projects such as solar concentrator systems and hydrogel polymerization for spinal implants.
