The Topological Materials Laboratory at EPFL focuses on studying the influence of topology on electronic structure, magnetic properties, and phase transitions. They investigate various topological insulators, Dirac and Weyl semimetals, skyrmions, transition metal oxides, and multiferroic materials using photon-based spectroscopic techniques like ARPES and RIXS. Special attention is given to reciprocal space spin textures and the ability to actively influence them. Their research on spin-orbit interaction explores novel physical phases, the Rashba effect for spintronics applications, and fundamental properties of matter using SARPES. The lab is at the forefront of developing experimental techniques to enhance research possibilities.
