Film theory is not to be confused with general film criticism, or film history, though these three disciplines interrelate.
PerformativityPerformativity is the concept that language can function as a form of social action and have the effect of change. The concept is first described by philosopher of language John L. Austin when he referred to a specific capacity: the capacity of speech and communication to act or to consummate an action.
MisogynieLa misogynie (du grec ancien μῖσος / mîsos, « haine » ; et du préfixe gyno-, « femme, femelle ») est un terme désignant un sentiment de mépris ou d'hostilité à l'égard des femmes motivé par leur sexe. C'est l'antonyme de philogynie. Dans certains cas, elle peut se manifester par des comportements violents de nature verbale, physique ou sexuelle, pouvant dans des cas extrêmes aller jusqu’au meurtre. Le terme est sémantiquement antonymique à celui de misandrie (sentiment de mépris ou d'hostilité à l'égard d'un ou des hommes).
PerformativitéLa performativité est le fait, pour un signe linguistique (énoncé, phrase, verbe, etc.) de réaliser lui-même ce qu'il énonce ; on dit alors que le signe est « performatif ». Le fait d'utiliser un de ces signes fait advenir une réalité. Par exemple, lors du jugement d’un accusé, la sentence décidée par le juge déterminera l’avenir de l’individu ; il deviendra soit « coupable », soit « innocent », la sentence sera donc « performative », les deux mots ayant un impact considérable sur l’identité de l’interlocuteur.
