In a dramatic crisis context, Lisbon reveals itself as an attractive and dynamic city of alternative bustling creativity. Trying to understand this paradox, I analyse two successful “alternative cultural spaces”: Lx Factory and Pensão Amor. Urban strategies are discussed in order to understand the growth process of these spaces, as well as different activities, cultural approaches, aesthetical and architectural choices. Social interactions with the communities around are also explored.
