The goal of this project is to design, build and test a 3D touch-sensing interface prototype capable of reading input positional and force values that then generate sinusoidal sound waves. This prototype is intended to be integrated onto a haptic feedback surface as part of the Time-Reversed Impulse Response Haptic Demonstrator (TRID) that sends localized vibrotactile feedback peaks using piezoelectric transducers bonded to a glass surface. The 3D touch technology is meant to be superimposed onto this haptic surface with the goal of turning the ensemble into a Digital Musical Instrument (DMI). Though the end goal is this singular transparent surface with both input and output feature, the reach of this project is merely a proof of concept and initial prototyping of the force sensing surface and DMI implementation, not full integration onto the TRID surface.
