Srinivasa RamanujanSrinivasa Ramanujan (ˈsriːnᵻvɑːsə_rɑːˈmɑːnʊdʒən ; born Srinivasa Ramanujan Aiyangar, sriːniʋaːsa ɾaːmaːnud͡ʑan ajːaŋgar; 22 December 1887 26 April 1920) was an Indian mathematician. Though he had almost no formal training in pure mathematics, he made substantial contributions to mathematical analysis, number theory, infinite series, and continued fractions, including solutions to mathematical problems then considered unsolvable. Ramanujan initially developed his own mathematical research in isolation.

Casimir elementIn mathematics, a Casimir element (also known as a Casimir invariant or Casimir operator) is a distinguished element of the center of the universal enveloping algebra of a Lie algebra. A prototypical example is the squared angular momentum operator, which is a Casimir element of the three-dimensional rotation group. Involutive algebras generalize the idea of a number system equipped with conjugation, for example the complex numbers and complex conjugation, matrices over the complex numbers and conjugate transpose, and linear operators over a Hilbert space and Hermitian adjoints.
