Totem (objet rituel)Un totem est un objet rituel présent dans différentes sociétés traditionnelles dans le monde, qui peut servir comme emblème d'un groupe de personnes comme une famille, un clan ou une tribu. Mât totémique En Afrique de l'Ouest, chez les Ahali-Sakiaré de la région du Nzi-Comoé de Côte d'Ivoire, le totem est un interdit dont l'observance s'impose soit à un individu, une famille ou un clan, soit à une société entière. Le totem n'est pas toujours représenté par un objet sculpté, il est le plus souvent un interdit alimentaire (poisson, viande, certaines céréales ou tubercules etc).
Plastic shamanPlastic shamans, or plastic medicine people, is a pejorative colloquialism applied to individuals who are attempting to pass themselves off as shamans, holy people, or other traditional spiritual leaders, but who have no genuine connection to the traditions or cultures they claim to represent. In some cases, the "plastic shaman" may have some genuine cultural connection, but is seen to be exploiting that knowledge for ego, power, or money.

Il le situait dans l'océan Pacifique et avançait que cette civilisation disparue il y a plusieurs millénaires aurait propagé sa technologie avancée dans le monde entier ; elle aurait notamment permis l'édification des grandes pyramides éparpillées sur le globe.

Ascended masterAscended masters, as written about in the theosophical tradition, are held to be enlightened beings who in past incarnations were ordinary humans, but who have undergone a series of spiritual transformations called initiations. Theosophists believe in: 1) the Law of Rebirth or reincarnation; 2) the Law of Cause and Effect; and 3) the Law of Harmlessness. Most importantly, evolution is considered to be spiritual in nature. Spiritual development occurs over many life-times, with humans slowly learning to observe themselves and to come to terms with who they are on a moment-to-moment basis.

When engaged in self-help, people often use publicly available information or support groups, on the Internet as well as in person, where people in similar situations join together. From early examples in self-driven legal practice and home-spun advice, the connotations of the word have spread and often apply particularly to education, business, exercise, psychology and psychotherapy, commonly distributed through the popular genre of self-help books.
