Systems modeling or system modeling is the interdisciplinary study of the use of models to conceptualize and construct systems in business and IT development. A common type of systems modeling is function modeling, with specific techniques such as the Functional Flow Block Diagram and IDEF0. These models can be extended using functional decomposition, and can be linked to requirements models for further systems partition. Contrasting the functional modeling, another type of systems modeling is architectural modeling which uses the systems architecture to conceptually model the structure, behavior, and more views of a system. The Business Process Modeling Notation (BPMN), a graphical representation for specifying business processes in a workflow, can also be considered to be a systems modeling language. Interactive Architectural Modeling from Point Clouds

In this work, we present an intuitive and interactive tool to model high quality 3D architectural objects starting from a MVS point cloud. Our implementation is inspired by [1] that describes the modeling system as well as the 3D reconstruction algorithm we use with some modification. We provide: • a simple mechanism to extract floor plans and profiles from a point cloud • an error computation between the modeled object and the point cloud • an easy way of using the pictures used to generate the MVS point cloud to improve the modeling An algorithm to merge two general events by automatically adjusting the profiles is also presented and finally, we show a texturing algorithm using the previously mentioned pictures.

A grand challenge in complex embedded systems design is developing methods and tools for modeling and analyzing the behavior of an application software running on multicore or distributed platforms. We propose a rigorous method and a tool chain that allows to obtain a faithful model representing the behavior of a mixed hardware/software system from a model of its application software and a model of its underlying hardware architecture. The system model can be simulated and analyzed for validation of both functional and extra-functional properties. The tool chain uses DOL (Distributed Operation Layer) as the frontend for specifying the application software and hardware architecture, and BIP (Behavior Interaction Priority) as the modeling and analysis framework. It is illustrated through the construction of system models of MJPEG and MPEG2 decoder applications running on MPARM, a multicore architecture.

Collective behavior and emerging patterns in dense dry aligning active matter

In this thesis, we study systems of active particles interacting via generic torques of different nature. We analyze the phase behavior of these systems, which results from the interplay between self-propulsion, excluded-volume and torques.We tackle the problem from two different perspectives. On the one hand, we derive a continuum field theory that describes a system of self-propelled particles subjected to generic torques. At the mean-field level, the linear stability analysis of the field equations unveils different instabilities of the homogeneous and isotropic state, leading to pattern formation and phase separation.On the other hand, we explore the phase diagrams of collections of aligning active Brownian particles by means of numerical simulations. We specifically focus on understanding what happens to motility-induced phase separation in the presence of different types of velocity alignment interactions. We study Vicsek-like alignment rules as well as dipolar interactions, which can be regarded as an alternative way of introducing effective alignment to the system. We extend the numerical simulations to also explore the phase behavior of mixtures of aligning active particles with different motilities. Here, we report a coupling between the fast and slow species, by which the fast species enhances the slow-species' motility. Finally, we address, at a fundamental level, what are the minimal ingredients leading to the emergence of a polarized phase in systems of aligning active particles. To do so, we propose a Hamiltonian model that could admit a transition to collective motion fulfilling the conservation of total linear momentum and derive a suitable algorithm to properly integrate the equations of motion.
