Arcadie (poésie)L'Arcadie (grec Ἀρκαδία) est une utopie, terre idyllique pastorale et harmonieuse. Le terme vient de la province grecque d'Arcadie et remonte à l'Antiquité classique. Région de Grèce, l'Arcadie symbolisa dès l'Antiquité un âge d'or. Cette représentation s'ancre dans la poésie bucolique latine et hellénique, où l'Arcadie était représentée comme un pays idéal. Elle imprègne la poésie antique: Virgile en parle dans plusieurs églogues de ses Bucoliques (composées entre -42 et 39 ).

Dans l'Antiquité gréco-latine, le phallus désigne une représentation figurée de l'organe sexuel masculin en érection. Il s'agit également d'un concept de psychanalyse. L'image principale des Feux divins est le phallus. Elle a deux origines : la flamme qui se dresse et la sexualisation de la production du feu par frottement dans laquelle l'un des deux morceaux de bois est assimilé au sexe masculin et l'autre au sexe féminin.

Witch-cult hypothesisThe witch-cult hypothesis is a discredited theory that the witch trials of the Early Modern period were an attempt to suppress a pagan religion that had survived the Christianization of Europe. According to its proponents, accused witches were actually followers of this alleged religion. They argue that the supposed 'witch cult' revolved around worshiping a Horned God of fertility and the underworld, whose Christian persecutors identified with the Devil, and whose followers held nocturnal rites at the witches' Sabbath.

Dionysian MysteriesThe Dionysian Mysteries were a ritual of ancient Greece and Rome which sometimes used intoxicants and other trance-inducing techniques (like dance and music) to remove inhibitions and social constraints, liberating the individual to return to a natural state. It also provided some liberation for men and women marginalized by Greek society, among which were slaves, outlaws, and non-citizens. In their final phase the Mysteries shifted their emphasis from a chthonic, underworld orientation to a transcendental, mystical one, with Dionysus changing his nature accordingly.
