Construction durable
Lécoconstruction ou construction durable est la création, la restauration, la rénovation ou la réhabilitation d'un bâtiment en lui permettant de respecter au mieux l'écologie à chaque étape de la construction, et plus tard, de son utilisation (chauffage, consommation d'énergie, rejet des divers flux : eau, déchets). Cette notion, apparue à la fin des années 1940 cherche aussi à intégrer le plus respectueusement possible le bâti dans le milieu naturel en utilisant au mieux des ressources peu transformées, locales, saines, et dans le milieu urbain, de travail ou rural en favorisant les liens sociaux.
Building science
Building science is the science and technology-driven collection of knowledge in order to provide better indoor environmental quality (IEQ), energy-efficient built environments, and occupant comfort and satisfaction. Building physics, architectural science, and applied physics are terms used for the knowledge domain that overlaps with building science. In building science, the methods used in natural and hard sciences are widely applied, which may include controlled and quasi-experiments, randomized control, physical measurements, remote sensing, and simulations.
Simulation de phénomènes
La simulation de phénomènes est un outil utilisé dans le domaine de la recherche et du développement. Elle permet d'étudier les réactions d'un système à différentes contraintes pour en déduire les résultats recherchés en se passant d'expérimentation. Les systèmes technologiques (infrastructures, véhicules, réseaux de communication, de transport ou d'énergie) sont soumis à différentes contraintes et actions. Le moyen le plus simple d'étudier leurs réactions serait d'expérimenter, c'est-à-dire d'exercer l'action souhaitée sur l'élément en cause pour observer ou mesurer le résultat.
Building performance simulation
Building performance simulation (BPS) is the replication of aspects of building performance using a computer-based, mathematical model created on the basis of fundamental physical principles and sound engineering practice. The objective of building performance simulation is the quantification of aspects of building performance which are relevant to the design, construction, operation and control of buildings. Building performance simulation has various sub-domains; most prominent are thermal simulation, lighting simulation, acoustical simulation and air flow simulation.

Building performance
Building performance is an attribute of a building that expresses how well that building carries out its functions. It may also relate to the performance of the building construction process. Categories of building performance are quality (how well the building fulfills its functions), resource savings (how much of a particular resource is needed to fulfill its functions) and workload capacity (how much the building can do). The performance of a building depends on the response of the building to an external load or shock.
Sustainable design
Environmentally sustainable design (also called environmentally conscious design, eco-design, etc.) is the philosophy of designing physical objects, the built environment, and services to comply with the principles of ecological sustainability and also aimed at improving the health and comfort of occupants in a building. Sustainable design seeks to reduce negative impacts on the environment, the health and well-being of building occupants, thereby improving building performance.

L’écoconception est un terme désignant la volonté de concevoir des produits respectant les principes du développement durable et de l'environnement, en recourant , dans un contexte qui évoluerait alors vers une économie circulaire. Design methods
Design methods are procedures, techniques, aids, or tools for designing. They offer a number of different kinds of activities that a designer might use within an overall design process. Conventional procedures of design, such as drawing, can be regarded as design methods, but since the 1950s new procedures have been developed that are more usually grouped together under the name of "design methods". What design methods have in common is that they "are attempts to make public the hitherto private thinking of designers; to externalise the design process".
