Véhicule articuléA semi-trailer truck, also known as a semi-truck, (or semi, big rig, tractor-trailer, or eighteen-wheeler) is the combination of a tractor unit and one or more semi-trailers to carry freight. A semi-trailer attaches to the tractor with a type of hitch called a fifth wheel. The main difference between tractor units in Europe and North America is that European models are cab over engine (called "forward control" in the United Kingdom), while the majority of North American trucks are "conventional" (called "normal control" or "bonneted" in the UK).
Unit loadThe term unit load refers to the size of an assemblage into which a number of individual items are combined for ease of storage and handling, for example a pallet load represents a unit load which can be moved easily with a pallet jack or forklift truck, or a container load represents a unit for shipping purposes. A unit load can be packed tightly into a warehouse rack, intermodal container, truck or boxcars, yet can be easily broken apart at a distribution point, usually a distribution center, wholesaler, or retail store for sale to consumers or for use.
SidelifterA sidelifter is a specialised vehicle or semi-trailer used to hoist and transport ISO standard intermodal containers over longer distances. The sidelifter loads and unloads containers via a pair of hydraulic powered cranes mounted at each end of the vehicle chassis. The cranes are designed to lift containers from the ground, from other vehicles including rolling stock, from railway wagons and directly from stacks on docks or aboard container ships. A standard sidelifter is also able to stack a container at a two containers' height on the ground.

On charge dans un AKE en moyenne une quarantaine de bagages, selon leur volume. Le DKE est identique à l'AKE, à ceci près qu'il n'est pas certifié pour le transport des marchandises dangereuses.

Piggyback is a corruption of pickaback, which is likely to be a folk etymology alteration of pick pack (1560s), which perhaps is from pick, a dialectal variant of the verb pitch.

L'idée pertinente de l’innovation fut de standardiser le mode de reprise de charge par le dessous en faisant une surélévation minimale d'un élément rigide plat. Les palettes sont très répandues dans l'emballage, le transport de charge et le stockage.

Le vrac (du néerlandais wrak : mal salé, mauvais) désigne des marchandises qui ne sont pas emballées ou arrimées. Le terme est particulièrement employé dans le domaine du transport, pour distinguer le transport des marchandises unitaires (sur palettes, en conteneurs, en boîtes...) des marchandises en vrac, comme le sable dans un camion-benne.

Sa manipulation est aisée, qu'elle soit soulevée par un véhicule munis de pinces ou soutenue par quatre pieds pliants qui permettent au camion de se détacher et de se raccrocher.
