A survey on tactical control algorithms for path tracking unmanned surface vehicles

In this study, a survey on control allocation algorithms in tactical level control for path tracking unmanned surface vehicles (USV) is conducted. The strategic goal in the path tracking problem is to assist navigation solution of an unmanned underwater vehicle (UUV). USV with the help of its onboard acoustic sensors, tracks UUV according to constant bearing guidance rule. The survey on tactical controllers comprises comparisons of tracking performances of USVs under proportional-integral-derivative, pole placement, feedback linearization and sliding mode controllers according to the strategic goal. The parameters of the controllers are tuned with a common elitist genetic algorithm optimization infrastructure. The disturbance rejection capabilities of the controllers are discussed through Monte Carlo simulations of USVs within various wave disturbances as well.

We give a formal specification for a real-time controller for trains that operate on the Italian railway network. The controller will control train movements and is part of a larger system destined to guarantee safety with respect to dangers originating from train traffic in the railway network. Based on an informal specification document from the Italian railway company, we construct a simple state-based model and formalise it in terms of the property-based specification language TRIO. The obtained specification being formal, we are able to perform certain verifications on it, such as checking its satisfiability and verifying correctness of refinement steps.

Robust H-infinity Controller Design Using Frequency-Domain Data

A new robust controller design method is developed for linear time-invariant single-input single-output systems presented by their frequency response data. The performance specifications are in terms of the upper bounds on the infinity norm of weighted closed-loop frequency responses. The designed controller is robust in terms of frequency-domain disk and polytopic uncertainty as well as multimodel uncertainty. The necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of such controllers are presented by a set of convex constraints. The practical issues to compute fixed-order rational H-infinity controllers by convex optimization techniques are discussed. The experimental results on an electromechanical system illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.
